So I have this pet peeve about people who allow others to cut in line. I don't know why and I never say anything about it but because of this, I make it a rule not to cut in line. No matter what, even if I'm meeting someone at a restaurant and they get there first and are ahead of me in line. That's where this story starts. I'm meeting a buddy at Chipotle where there is always a good size line but the line moves quickly. They roll those giant burritos pretty quick. He text's me that he is already there so I text him back to wait for me before he gets in line cause I won't cut. I get there and he waits and is like, WTF dude. I explained and right then, the gal in front of us allowed a person to cut. I gave him a look like, isn't that slightly annoying? So as we chat someone else that the gal in front of us knew got to the restaurant but she did the right thing and decided to drop back to where that person was in line. I thought, this is karma! We just jumped up two spots! We waited some more and as we approached this older couple they were apparently waiting for someone and waved us by, two more spots! I know I'm crazy but it's funny how the universe helps instill the value in the odd little rules we live by. It certainly made my day.

It's almost September?!
So I wanted to make sure I put a blog up before August was done and here it is. I completed my first Fantasy Football draft yesterday. We grabbed Maurice Jones-Drew with our first pick and think the team turned out pretty solid. Next Friday will be my second and final draft, these things are tiresome but it's a great time and adds so much to watching the games. Here is the board from the first draft.

Vacation in Lakeside, AZ
We have been up north enjoying the cooler weather and fishing at the cabins. We stay at Lake of the Woods in Lakeside AZ. Once I resigned to the fact that no serious fishing could be accomplished with a two year old on the trip and focused on relaxing (known as napping and drinking beer) and helping the boys fish. I was enjoying myself and already planning the next trip in my head alone with my wife. I did manage to catch four catfish on Friday with only six casts. It's amazing how many worms an impatient seven year old can go through (I was baiting his hook at the time).
As I write this I'm waiting for the storm that has been predicted all week to finally roll through the area (there is no wifi here so I'm waiting until I get home to post this). It has cooled things off even more which feels amazing. We have all the windows open and the cool breeze is wafting through the cabin. I'm hoping for an amazing lightning storm. When we went to Safeway a few minutes ago a couple miles away the wind was gusting strong and the lighting was flashing in the distance. Now that we're back, it appears that we have outrun the storm or it's changed direction. I'll let you know.
One more week of vacation to go, most of which will be catching up on things around the house and some more relaxing. Hope to have more regular updates going forward!

Isabella Sneaking
Isabella hasn't realized that sneaking up on people entails more than putting her hands in the shape you see in this video and saying roaaar! Normally, she'll be directly in your line of sight and decide to tip toe up to you as a tickle monster, believing that as the character Swiper in Dora the Explorer, she is hidden from view. In this video, she's taken sneaking to a new level where she doesn't bother to get off the couch. She just puts her hands in the 'sneaking' position and says Roar. I play along, hilarity ensues...

Only 30 minutes
My Friday schedule was absolutely packed, I only had 30 minutes free to try and run out to get something to eat. As I was waiting to turn left into In N Out off a busy street I saw this kid wreck on his bicycle right as he came off the sidewalk into the drive I was waiting to turn into. There was a car in front of me that witnessed this and one car waiting to turn right that had to wait for him to pick himself up, grab his hat and get back on the sidewalk. It was the kind of wreck that makes you cringe in anticipation of what type of damage is going to be done because he went right over the handlebars and appeared he hit his head. Luckily, he bounced right up and seemed to be physically okay but obviously disoriented.
Although he did get right up what amazed and saddened me was that as soon as he was out of the way, both the car in front of me and the car waiting to turn right both went on as if they didn't even see the poor kid bite it. I pulled in and stopped, walked through the landscaped area to the side walk and asked him if he was okay. He insisted he was okay and that his chain broke, I told him how I hated when that happened. He went on to explain how he knew that his bike was a death trap on wheels (keep in mind this was a pedal bike and he was about 15). I asked if he hit his head and he said he had but it wasn't bad at all. I asked if there was anything else he needed and he asked if he could use my cellphone. I got it to the keypad as he wiped his hands on his shirt apologizing that his hands had grease on them from his chain. I told him not to worry about it, that I could clean it later...no big deal. He dialed and the first words out of his mouth were, 'Mom? I just bit it big time on my bike, can you pick me up?"
For some reason that made me so glad I had stopped and it really made me wonder how we convince ourselves that we are too busy to stop for just a few minutes to help each other. Keep this in mind the next time you see someone that could use a hand.

Prepping for the Tool concert
I was driving home listening to Tool in preparation of the concert on July 21st and the song 46 and 2 came on. I cranked it up, louder than I usually do these days. Mainly because I worry that with so much rock n roll and concerts in my day that my hearing will eventually be damaged but I just had the urge to crank it loud. So loud that you wonder if you'll be able to hear out of your right ear when you are done with the commute, so loud that people next to you at the light think you are a punk - who cares. As I listened, it dawned on me once again how powerful music can be to humankind. It is truly amazing the way that a song or band can lift your spirit and rejuvenate your soul.
